Before heading out on Christmas, it’s worth checking local store hours. Many Modesto-area businesses will be closed or operating on limited schedules for the holiday.
The Modesto Bee contacted local businesses to find out how Christmas Eve and Christmas Day will affect store and service hours in 2025.
Below is a list of what will be open or closed in Stanislaus County on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25.
Keep in mind that hours can vary by location, so it’s best to confirm with your local store before you go.
When are Modesto grocery stores open for Christmas?
The Modesto area is home to a variety of grocery stores, supermarkets and other retailers.
Here’s when major retail chains will be open on Wednesday, Dec. 24, and Thursday, Dec. 25, and which ones will close:
- BevMo!: Open 7 a.m. to 10 p.m. Christmas Eve; open 9 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Day.
- Cost Less: Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Costco: Open 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- FoodMaxx: Open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve; open 7 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Day.
- O’Brien’s Market: Open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Raley’s/Bel Air: Open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Safeway: Open 5 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve; open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Day.
- Sprouts: Open 7 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Target: Open 7 a.m. to 8 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Trader Joe’s: Open 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Vallarta Supermarkets: Open 6 a.m. to 7 p.m. Christmas Eve; open 8 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Day.
- Walmart: Open 6 a.m. to 6 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day.
- Winco: Open midnight to 5:30 p.m. Christmas Eve; closed Christmas Day; open 7 a.m. to midnight on Friday, Dec. 26.
Is Vintage Faire Mall open on Christmas Eve?
Vintage Faire Mall will be open from 8 a.m. to 7 p.m. on Christmas Eve. The shopping mall will be closed on Christmas Day.
Individual restaurants and retailers, including Dave & Buster’s, can have different hours, so it’s best to contact them directly.
Are local pharmacies open on Christmas Day? See holiday hours
Holiday hours will impact local pharmacies and drugstores on both Christmas Eve and Christmas Day.
On Christmas Eve — Wednesday, Dec. 24 — CVS Pharmacy will be open from 8 a.m. to 9 p.m., with pharmacy services available from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
CVS will be open from 10 a.m. to 8 p.m. on Thursday, Dec. 25, for Christmas Day, but pharmacy counters will be closed.
Walgreens will also observe reduced hours due to the holiday.
On Christmas Eve, Walgreens will be open from 7 a.m. to 10 p.m., with pharmacy hours from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m.
You can shop at Walgreens from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. on Christmas Day, but pharmacy services won’t be available that day.
What’s closed on Christmas Day in Modesto?
Most government offices in Modesto, including the California Department of Motor Vehicles, U.S. Postal Service and public libraries, will be closed on Christmas Day.
Most banks will also be closed for the holiday.
On Christmas Eve, some businesses and services will operate on reduced hours.
The DMV will be open from 9 a.m. to 5 p.m., while USPS offices will close at 2 p.m. Public libraries will remain closed Wedneday for the holiday.
Package delivery companies, including FedEx and UPS, will operate on modified hours on Christmas Eve and will not deliver on Christmas Day.
