DUI checkpoint to be held in Modesto, police say. Here’s when
The Modesto Police Department will hold a DUI checkpoint at an undisclosed location from 8 p.m. Friday to 3 a.m. Saturday, it announced.
Drivers charged with a first-time DUI face an average of $13,500 in fines and penalties, which include a driver’s license suspension. In 2024, MPD made 616 DUI arrests. In 2022, Modesto ranked the highest among comparable cities in the number of DUI collisions that killed or injured someone, according to California’s Office of Traffic Safety.
“Impaired drivers put others on the road at significant risk,” Sgt. Darien Wilson stated in an MPD press release. “Any prevention measures that reduce the number of impaired drivers on our roads significantly improve traffic safety.”
MPD’s release added that impaired driving was not limited to alcohol. Driving while impaired by certain prescription medications, over-the-counter drugs or medical and recreational marijuana could be considered DUI.
