Replica gun causes Patterson High lockdown, Stanislaus County Sheriff says

The Modesto Bee

A student who displayed what turned out to be a replica of a firearm at a Patterson school was arrested, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

Deputies responded to Patterson High School at about 3:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 5, after a report that a student had a firearm inside his backpack and had displayed it to another student, according to a news release.

Deputies instructed school administrators to lock down the campus in “an abundance of caution,” as it was not known if the student was still there.

Deputies reviewed school surveillance footage and confirmed the reported incident, the news release said. “With assistance from school staff, the student was quickly identified as a 16-year-old male juvenile and confirmed to be a Patterson High School student.”

Once it was determined that the student had left campus, the lockdown was lifted. Deputies went to the student’s home, where they located the suspect. An imitation firearm was recovered, and the student was taken into custody.

He was taken to Juvenile Hall and booked for felony criminal threats, misdemeanor threats on a school campus and possession of a replica firearm.
