Woman dies in Highway 108 crash near Sonora. DUI suspected, CHP says
A 29-year-old Sonora woman was killed Tuesday evening when her car overturned on Highway 108 west of Peaceful Oak Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The crash happened just after 6:30 p.m. when the woman, driving a 2003 Volkswagen Bug, was headed east at unknown speed. The CHP said the vehicle crossed the eastbound lane and went off the south edge of the highway, where it overturned.
The driver was thrown from the car and suffered fatal injuries, despite lifesaving efforts from first responders, the CHP said.
Investigators suspect alcohol or drugs played a role in the crash.
The woman’s name has not yet been released, pending notification of family.
