CSU Stanislaus' Shirvani named top CSU president
LONG BEACH -- A statewide group of student leaders today named Hamid Shirvani of California State University, Stanislaus, as “President of the Year” for the second time in three years.
Shirvani received the 2009 Robert C. Maxson CSU President of the Year award in 2007, and is one of only two presidents in the history of the CSU system to be so honored more than once. The award was presented at a ceremony today.
“I am honored - and a bit speechless - to be receiving this wonderful award for a second time,” Shirvani said. “It is a pleasure and a privilege to work with the exceptional students here at California State University, Stanislaus, and throughout the CSU.”
Shirvani was heralded by the California Statewide Students Association for going out of his way to get to know students. The Association cites him as a strong leader well known for being widely accessible to students and effective in advocating on their behalf.
CSU, Stanislaus, student body president Andrew Janz called Shirvani an “outstanding university president who has expanded students’ role in shared governance.”
