A 25-year-old man from Delhi died early Friday after crashing his motorcycle into a car on Albers Road just north of Dusty Lane, the California Highway Patrol said.

The collision occurred around 5:11 a.m. when a 2001 Honda Accord, driven by a 26-year-old Modesto man, was slowing to turn left into a private driveway. Four other vehicles had also slowed behind the Honda.

According to a CHP news release, the rider of a 2011 Suzuki moved into the southbound lane to pass the slower traffic. At the same time, the Honda began turning left, and the motorcycle struck the car’s rear driver-side door.

The rider was ejected from the motorcycle and landed on the west shoulder of the road. He was pronounced dead at the scene by emergency personnel.

The CHP said both motorists were wearing proper safety gear — the Honda driver had his seatbelt on, and the rider was wearing a Department of Transportation-approved helmet. Drugs and alcohol are not suspected to have played a role in the crash.

The CHP is investigating the incident and reminded motorists to slow down, maintain a safe following distance, and “drive to arrive.”

The identity of the rider has not yet been released, pending notification of next of kin.
