These engineers are responsible for creating and overseeing plans for a variety of public projects, including roads, water systems and buildings.

Firefighter | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Modesto Fire Department
  • Salary: $31.80 to $38.65 per hour

Firefighters respond to fires, medical emergencies and other urgent calls.

They also help with fire safety education, ongoing training and keeping the station and equipment in clean shape.

Integrated waste program manager | Permanent, full time

The integrated waste program manager oversees waste programs including garbage, composting, landfill and waste-to-energy operations.

Duties include creating and implementing goals; managing services and activities; and evaluating employee performance.

Neighborhood preservation supervisor | Permanent, full time

  • Salary: $38.50 to $49.13 hourly

The neighborhood preservation supervisor leads and manages the work of a team that helps keep neighborhoods clean, safe and well-maintained.

Planning manager | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Community and Economic Development
  • Salary: $131,206 to $167,440 per year

The planning manager oversees the city’s planning efforts, including updating zoning rules, reviewing development projects and making sure environmental guidelines are followed.

The planning manager works closely with other city departments and supports the department director with expert advice on zoning and code compliance.

The city utilities, public works and engineering departments are looking for senior civil/traffic engineers.

These engineers are responsible for leading projects and providing knowledge on principles, practices and current issues.

The city police, utility, engineering public works and parks, recreation and neighborhoods departments are looking for service and maintenance aides.

These aides are responsible for performing labor and maintenance tasks, including cleaning areas, operating equipment and leading other team members for city projects.

Solid waste supervisor | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $84,115 to $107,369 per year

The solid waste supervisor manages daily trash and recycling services by making sure everything runs smoothly and follows city rules.

The supervisor works alongside other city departments and agencies.

Other duties include applying for and managing grants and staying updated on state and local laws that affect waste services.
