Update: Modesto man who died after crash at Standiford and Sisk is ID’d
A Modesto man died Saturday afternoon after a three-vehicle collision near one of the city’s busiest intersections, authorities said.
Officers responded just after 2:20 p.m. to the crash at Standiford Avenue and Sisk Road, where they found Michael Cuneo, 67, of Modesto, suffering from injuries. He was taken to a local hospital, where he later died, according to a Modesto Police Department news release.
Police said a preliminary investigation revealed Cuneo was driving south on Sisk Road when he struck a pole on the center median at Standiford Avenue. He continued driving, hit another pole and veered across the median into oncoming traffic, colliding with two other vehicles.
All drivers remained at the scene and cooperated with the investigation, police said. No other injuries were reported.
Investigators said they found no indication of alcohol or drug use. The crash appeared to be caused by a medical emergency, according to police. A Modesto Fire Department incident summary says Cuneo was found in cardiac arrest and AMR began initial patient care.
The roadway was closed for several hours as the department’s Traffic Safety Unit investigated the crash. Authorities are asking anyone who witnessed the incident to contact Officer Cross at CrossT@Modestopd.com.
