Ceres police identify officer injured when holstered gun went off at school
A Ceres police officer who was injured last week when her holstered firearm discharged outside Blaker-Kinser Junior High School has been identified as Salin Chrim, the department announced Wednesday.
The incident happened June 24 around 12:50 p.m. in the school’s parking lot on Kinser Road, according to police.
Chrim, a sworn member of the department assigned as a school resource officer, suffered a leg wound that was not life-threatening. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment, according to police. No students or staff members were injured.
Police said Chrim was not interacting with anyone when her department-approved Sig Sauer P320 pistol discharged while secured in a holster.
Preliminary review determined that both the firearm and holster were compatible with department policy. The incident is being investigated as an “uncommanded discharge,” meaning the weapon fired without being handled by the officer.
The firearm and holster will be submitted to the California Department of Justice for inspection and evaluation to determine the cause of the discharge, officials said.
“The Ceres Police Department takes incidents involving firearms extremely seriously and is committed to transparency, officer safety, and public trust,” the department said in the release.
At the time of the incident, summer school had ended for the day and only a limited number of students and staff were on campus.
Further updates will be provided by the department as new information becomes available.
