LUNCH AND LEARN MEETING: The League of Women Voters of Stanislaus County is holding a Lunch and Learn today. Organizers said Gerry Kamilos, developer of the proposed West Park Industrial Business Park in Crows Landing, will be guest speaker. OPEN HOUSE: The staff of the Carole Sund/Carrington Memorial Reward Foundation will host an open house from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Wednesday, at the foundation office, 301 Downey Ave., to acknowledge Kim Petersen for her eight years as executive director. The public is welcome to attend.

HOLIDAY GLITZ SALE: The American Cancer Society Discovery Shop will present a Holiday Glitz sale Friday and Saturday featuring evening wear, accessories and pearls. The annual Trim-A-Home event follows on Nov. 9 and 10, featuring holiday decorations. The shop has new and gently used clothing and accessories, household items, furniture, jewelry, antiques and collectibles. All proceeds support research, education, advocacy and patient services in the fight against cancer. The shop, 3440 McHenry Ave., Suite A-12, welcomes donations. END OF LIFE SYMPOSIUM: Community Hospice will present "Shelter from the Storm," a clinical symposium with information on end-of-life care issues and trends. Organizers said attendees will learn about spirituality at the end of life, end of life care, and pain and symptom management. The course will be held from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. Saturday and is designed to educate the health care community; continuing education credits will be awarded. Community Hospice is at The Haig and Isabel Berberian Patient Services Center, 4368 Spyres Way. The cost is $100 and includes handouts, continental breakfast and lunch. THE SPIRITUAL JOURNEY: Community Hospice also will hold a seminar on end-of-life issues from noon to 1:30 p.m. Friday at Community Hospice, 4368 Spyres Way. The seminar is a clergy symposium about spirituality at the end of life, and includes lunch. The speaker will be the Rev. Kathleen Rusnak, pastor at a church in New Jersey and former director of spiritual care at a hospice in Connecticut. No charge, but attendees should register at 578-6348.

SCHOLARSHIPS OFFERED FOR WOMEN: Soroptimist International of Modesto and Modesto North are offering $750 education scholarships for "head of household" women seeking financial help for school. KNIGHTS FERRY

IT'S TIME FOR THE PUMPKIN ROLL: The 44th annual Knights Ferry event will be held Sunday. Sign-ups begin at 11 a.m. and pumpkins start rolling at noon. A pancake breakfast will be held from 8 a.m. to noon at the IOOF Hall on Main Street. Cost is $5. Also happening will be a craft fair with food booths and vendors. HISPANIC LEADERSHIP COUNCIL: The Turlock Chapter of the Hispanic Leadership Council will meet Wednesday from noon to 1 p.m. at Universal Brokers, 300 E. Main St. Guest speaker will be Ben Duran, president of Merced College. The meeting is open to the public.

FURNITURE SALE RAISES MONEY: The Foursquare Church is having an office furniture sale from 8 a.m. to 4 p.m. today through Saturday at Turlock Air Park, 521 E. Greenway Ave. Proceeds will benefit Foursquare Church projects.

TUOLUMNE COUNTY

USED BOOK SALE AT LIBRARY: Overstocked with used books, the Friends of Tuolumne Library will hold a clearance sale 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday, in the meeting room at the main library, 480 Greenley Road, Sonora. Coffee table books on various subjects also will be on sale. Organizers said they are in good to excellent condition. A preview sale and reception for library volunteers and members of Friends of the Tuolumne County Library will be held from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday. Memberships may be purchased at the door. Family membership is $20, single or senior membership $10, student membership $5. All book sale proceeds are used to support library programs and improvements. The group operates the used book store, the Book Nook, off the library lobby and holds one-day book sales when its inventory of donated books outgrows available storage space. Staffed entirely by volunteers, the Book Nook is open Monday through Saturday from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m..

SAN JOAQUIN COUNTY

OPEN HOUSE: The Civil Air Patrol will host an open house today at the Sierra Composite Squadron 72, which serves Stockton, Lodi, Lathrop, Tracy, Manteca, Ripon and Modesto. The open house will be at the Sharpe Depot, Building 404, Squadron Headquarters, 700 E. Roth Road in French Camp today, beginning at 7 p.m. For more information, call Steve England at 712-2988.
