A 29-year-old Modesto man was killed Monday in a single-vehicle crash along Highway 132 east of Waterford, according to the California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened around 4:15 p.m. just east of Rushing Road. Emergency crews arrived to find a 2002 Ford pickup with major damage on the north shoulder of the roadway, the CHP said in a press release. The driver was located a short distance away and pronounced dead at the scene.

On Tuesday, the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified him as Zachariah Zane Law of Modesto.

The CHP’s preliminary investigation found that Law was driving west on Highway 132 when the truck veered off the roadway onto the north shoulder and overturned. He was ejected from the vehicle during the crash.

Authorities said Law was not wearing a seat belt at the time.

“It is unknown if drugs and/or alcohol contributed to this crash,” the CHP said. “Seat belts, when worn properly, have the ability to save your life when involved in a traffic crash.”

The incident remains under investigation.
