Modesto blaze roars through large home. Dog perishes in the Gayle Avenue fire
A fire Wednesday morning caused extensive damage to a large home in the 400 block of Gayle Avenue in central Modesto.
Modesto Fire Department engines responded at 5:20 a.m. and found a light amount of smoke coming from the tri-level home, which is across the street from Congregation Beth Shalom.
According to a Fire Department incident report, the call was upgraded to a working structure fire and three more engines were dispatched.
The fire became more intense, with flames ripping through all levels of the home. A second alarm sent more resources to battle the blaze.
The fire was contained to the residential structure. It was brought under control within 25 minutes, Modesto Fire Department said.
No one was injured but a dog perished inside the house. Officials are investigating the cause of the fire.
