Driver killed in 2-vehicle crash at Modesto intersection of Claus and Milnes is identified
The name of the driver killed in a two-vehicle crash at the intersection of Claus and Milnes roads Monday evening has been released by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office .
Modesto Police Department officers responded to the collision at about 6:30 p.m. March 17 and found the driver of a black Acura ILX, Jonathan Venegas of Waterford, unresponsive inside his vehicle. Emergency medical personnel attempted lifesaving measures, but Venegas, 22, succumbed to his injuries at the scene.
The intersection where the crash happened is T-shaped, with east-west Milnes ending at Claus. Claus has just two lanes, except for a short center lane to turn east onto Milnes and south onto Claus.
According to the preliminary investigation, Venegas was traveling west on Milnes Road and entered the intersection at Claus Road when he was broadsided by a white Ford F-150, driven by a Modesto man. Drivers on Milnes have a stop sign, while traffic on Claus does not.
Police ask witnesses or anyone with additional information to contact Officer Cristian Avina at Avinac@modestopd.com.
A GoFundMe.com account titled “Support for Jonathan Venegas’ Final Farewell” has been created by his family.
