Crash at Modesto Reservoir leaves helicopter in water, according to sheriff’s department

Breaking News

A helicopter crash at Modesto Reservoir around 11 a.m. Saturday resulted in major injuries to one person and closed the waterway, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Department.

There were two people known to be in the aircraft when it crashed into the water, according to initial reports. The pilot and a passenger were transported to a hospital.

Although major, the one person’s injuries did not appear to be life threatening, according to Erich Layton, a sheriff’s department spokesperson. Injuries to the second person were unknown.

Layton said early Saturday afternoon that the Stanislaus County sheriff’s department was working to determine the owner of the helicopter.

The park and shoreline were open Saturday but the reservoir waterway has been closed to visitors for what will be an unknown amount of time. “The water is 100% off limits,” Layton said.
