If your teen wants a little extra dough for savings or to fund activities over spring break, several Modesto retailers and restaurants are hiring.
From an auto retailer to a grocery store to restaurants, the open positions accept applicants as young as 16.
Here are five job opportunities in Modesto, including their descriptions and how much they pay:

- Open position: Retail sales associate - Rising Star (part time)
- Salary: Undisclosed
AutoZone’s Rising Star program is an opportunity for 16- and 17-year-olds to kick-start a career in retail, according to the company’s website. Part-time retail associates’ responsibilities include assisting customers, keeping the store presentable, operating cash registers, helping to diagnose car issues and assisting with wiper blade, battery and light bulb installations.
- Location: 1801 McHenry Ave., Suite B
- Open position: Crew member
- Salary: $20 to $21 per hour
Crew members are trained to work at any station, including the grill, cash register, prep area, salsa making and as expo. Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
- Location: 2200 Plaza Parkway
- Open position: Host
- Salary: $16 to $18 per hour
Olive Garden offers flexible schedules to help employees balance other commitments, including school, according to its website. Hosts welcome guests and guide them to their tables, sanitize touch points and thank guests for visiting. For most hourly positions, the minimum age to work at Olive Garden is 16, a company representative said.

- Open position: Cashier
- Salary: $20 to $23 per hour
Cashier tasks include knowing the menu, ringing up orders and helping customers with questions or requests. Applicants must be at least 16 years old.
- Location: 339 Village One Plaza; 3020 Floyd Ave.
- Open position: Courtesy clerk
- Salary: $16.60 per hour
Courtesy team members bag customers’ groceries, collect shopping carts from the parking lot, maintain cleanliness of the store and bathrooms, assist with “go backs” and accompany customers in locating items. Applicants must be at least 16 and have a work permit.
