Update: Woman who died after crashing vehicle into oak tree in Modesto identified by coroner

A woman died late Monday night after crashing her vehicle into an oak tree on River Road, according to the Modesto Police Department. The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office on Wednesday said the victim was Jovanna Serafin, 33, of Modesto.

Officers responded to the 1000 block of River Road around 11:45 p.m. after receiving reports of a solo-vehicle collision. Upon arrival, they found Serafin unresponsive inside a white vehicle. Authorities confirmed she died at the scene from her injuries.

The cause of the crash is still under investigation by the department’s Traffic Safety Unit.

Police are asking anyone who witnessed the crash or has information to contact Officer Cristian Avina at Avinac@modestopd.com.
