Cupid’s bow takes aim at annual Modesto marriage event. See when and where
The most romantic event, on the most romantic day, at Modesto’s most romantic location. Who could ask for more?
Engaged couples again will have the opportunity to make their valentines their spouses at the 19th annual Marriage at the Mansion event on Friday, Feb. 14.
Donna Linder, the Stanislaus County clerk-recorder and commissioner of civil marriages, and her staff will perform nonreligious civil ceremonies at the McHenry Mansion from 10 a.m. until 4 p.m.
Interested couples must sign up in advance and obtain a marriage license at the county Clerk-Recorder’s Office, 1021 I St. The cost of the ceremony and license is $121, or $126 for a confidential marriage license.
Though a daylong event, the ceremonies are individual, last around 10 minutes and take place at a few different locations in the mansion. Guests are limited to 15 per wedding.
Ceremonies can be conducted in English or Spanish.
The event started in 2003 and has occurred nearly every year, missing only a few years during the COVID pandemic and limited staffing. This popular event has seen over 100 couples tie the knot through the years. Last year alone, 21 marriages were performed, Linder said, and 22 couples already have signed up for this year.
“Couples planning to tie the knot in 2025 should reserve their Valentine’s Day wedding without delay,” Linder said. “If they would like to get married on the most romantic day of the year, they should contact our office as soon as possible.”
The mansion offers a charming backdrop for photos to commemorate the day, but no flash photography is allowed inside, to protect the antiques from damage.
The mansion gift shop will be open with a special Valentine’s Day theme. For more information or to set an appointment, contact the Clerk-Recorder’s Office at 209-525-5269 or 209-525-5205, or 209-525-5230 for assistance in Spanish.
