Salida man hospitalized after motorcycle collision on McHenry Avenue in Modesto

California Highway Patrol

A Salida man was hospitalized with major injuries following a two-vehicle collision involving a motorcycle Wednesday evening.

According to the California Highway Patrol, Edward Rocha, 52, of Newman was traveling south on McHenry Avenue just north of Bangs Avenue when he made a left turn directly into the path of an oncoming motorcycle.

Motorcyclist Nicholas Eggink, 25 of Salida was thrown from his 2024 Harley Davidson Softail as it collided with Rocha’s 2012 Toyota Yaris.

Eggink was taken to the Doctors Medical Center and hospitalized with serious injuries. Rocha was not injured.

The California Highway Patrol is still investigating, but drugs and alcohol do not appear to be factors. The CHP has spoken to one witness and is asking for others to come forward. Witnesses can contact Officer Ming Hsu at 209-545-7440.
