Water line breaks cut service to 70 homes in northwest Modesto, cause street flooding
A northwest Modesto street had two water line breaks that cut off service to about 70 homes for several hours.
They happened Sunday, Dec. 22, on Budd Street, a few blocks north of Plaza Parkway. The second incident caused street flooding as much as knee-deep, neighbors told ABC-10 News.
All water service was restored by Sunday afternoon, city spokesman Cameron Cramer said by email. No damage to homes was reported from the flooding.
The first break was at about 12:30 a.m. where a home connects with a city line on Budd at Nancy Lane. A city crew was completing repairs when the second incident happened between 6 and 7 a.m. at Pamela Lane. It was traced to a cracked pipe under the asphalt.
The flooding abated after workers pumped out the water and excavated the broken pipe. As of Monday afternoon, mud remained in some gutters as another crew vacuumed out clogged storm drains.
Cramer said the two breaks were not related, though they were only about 300 feet apart. “As with any extensive infrastructure, there are chances of failure from time to time,” he said.
The cost of the repairs was not available, but Cramer said the Modesto Water Services Division has money set aside for such needs.
