The Modesto region has seen above-normal precipitation levels so far in November, inspiring some local travelers to plan last-minute holiday getaways to tropical or desert destinations.

Fortunately, Oakland International Airport, the nearest major airport to Modesto, offers direct flights to a variety of domestic and international destinations — including cities that are a bit warmer and brighter than the Valley.

Here are five warm, sunny destinations that can be reached via nonstop flights from Oakland International Airport:

Las Vegas

Southwest Airlines and Spirit Airlines both offer nonstop flights to Las Vegas.

The flight from Oakland to Sin City takes about an hour and 40 minutes.

The most affordable one-way tickets, available through Spirit, start at $51 for the month of December.

Although the weather can be cold in the Nevada desert during the winter months, the weather forecast shows sunny skies with highs in the 60s starting next week.

Maui, Hawaii

Nonstop flights from Oakland to the island of Maui are available through Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

The flight lasts approximately five and a half hours, with one-way tickets starting at $413 in December.

Though tropical showers are expected to disperse by the end of the week, high temperatures in the upper 70s are expected starting next week, according to the National Weather Service.

Nonstop flights from Oakland to Puerto Vallarta, Mexico, are available through Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines.

The flight takes roughly nine hours, with one-way tickets starting at $221 in December.

According to The Weather Channel, Puerto Vallarta is experiencing sunny skies and high temperatures in the 80s.

Los Angeles

Southwest Airlines, Spirit Airlines and Alaska Airlines all offer nonstop flights to Los Angeles from Oakland.

The flight from Oakland to the Southern California city takes about an hour and 25 minutes.

The most affordable one-way tickets to Los Angeles, available through Alaska Airlines, start at $79 for the month of December.

According to The Weather Channel, the weather in Los Angeles is mostly sunny with temperatures in the high 70s starting next week.

Honolulu

Hawaiian Airlines, Alaska Airlines and Southwest Airlines offer nonstop flights from Oakland to Honolulu.

The flight takes about six hours.

During December, nonstop flights from Oakland to Honolulu start at $209 through Alaska Airlines.

Tropical showers were expected to disperse across Honolulu, with high temperatures in the upper 80s starting next week, according to the National Weather Service.
