Whether it’s the popular 12-foot Skeleton from Home Depot or Joann Fabrics’ interesting Edgar Allen Poe holding a skull on a toilet, Halloween decor has evolved from simple cobwebs and pumpkins to themes for any taste. Holiday enthusiasts may also have noticed that Halloween decor started to appear in stores earlier this year, with some shops launching their wares in July.

This early shopping trend even has a name, Summerween. Coined by Gen Z and millennial social media influencers, this marks the start of Halloween decorating that lasts through the summer into October. On Facebook, there is no shortage of Halloween decor groups and users who regularly post #codeorange alerts when new and novel items launch for sale.

Data shows that Halloween is big business. Last year, consumers spent a record $12.2 billion, according to the National Retail Federation. This year, it is estimated that shoppers will spend $11.6 billion, with an average spend of $103.63 per person. As Summerween transitions into Halloween, have you started your decorating yet?

Do you have a terrifying horror scene out on your lawn? Perhaps a whimsical, spooky, vintage display with vibrant colors? Maybe a kid-friendly, character-themed showing with inflatables and statues? Whatever your style, we want to see it.

The Modesto Bee is seeking the most eye-catching Halloween decor in the area to highlight for our readers. A previous story profiled a home in Turlock where visitors could walk through a skeleton, witch and pirate adventure.

Submit your decor to mfigueroa@modbee.com and include your contact information, a brief summary of your decorations and include a photo if possible.
