The city of Modesto is hiring for multiple part- and full-time positions available across a variety of departments, including public works, community development and engineering services.

According to the city website, full-time city employees are eligible to receive benefits, including life insurance, medical insurance, retirement plans and educational incentive pay.

As of Wednesday, Sept. 25, these were some of the full-time positions available:

Assistant/associate engineer | Permanent, full time

  • Department: Engineering Services
  • Salary: $83,283 to $111,737 per year

The assistant/associate engineer contributes to projects that focus on all methods of transportation and the improvement of utility buildings.

Associate civil/traffic engineer | Permanent, full time

  • Departments: Multiple
  • Salary: $112,548 to $136,801 per year

The city utilities, public works and engineering departments are looking for associate civil/traffic engineers.

These engineers are responsible for creating and overseeing plans for a variety of public projects including roads, water systems and buildings.

Building inspector I/II | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Community and Economic Development
  • Salary: $32.39 to $43.45 per hour

The building inspector conducts inspections to ensure construction meets required codes, maintains detailed records and provides assistance to the public.

The application period for this position is open until Monday, Oct. 7.

Building maintenance technician | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Modesto Police Department
  • Salary: $30.83 to $37.47 per hour

The building maintenance technician will perform a variety of maintenance and repair activities involving carpentry, painting, electrical, mechanical, plumbing and other related duties.

The chosen candidate must successfully complete a polygraph examination and pass a thorough background check conducted by the police department, the city website says.

Compost facility supervisor | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $81,640 to $99,236 per year

The compost facility supervisor oversees and manages crews involved in compost site operations, maintenance, repairs and construction.

Responsibilities include planning, organizing, directing and supervising the work, as well as handling various technical tasks related to the compost facility.

The application period closes on Monday, Sept. 30.

Equipment operator I/II | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $26.58 to $35.66 per hour

The equipment operator is responsible for operating construction, maintenance and transportation equipment for activities such as refuse collection, street repair, sweeping, water and wastewater maintenance.

Heavy equipment mechanic crewleader | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $34.88 to $42.39 per hour

The heavy equipment mechanic crewleader is responsible for planning, prioritizing and overseeing the work of staff responsible for maintaining and repairing the city’s transit buses, as well as other vehicles and equipment powered by gas and diesel.

The application period for this position closes on Wednesday, Oct. 16.

Heavy equipment mechanic II | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Public Works
  • Salary: $31.60 to $38.41 an hour

The heavy equipment mechanic is responsible for maintaining and performing both minor and major mechanical repairs on the city’s transit buses and gasoline or diesel-powered vehicles, plus other machinery.

Duties include diagnosing and repairing vehicle components and control systems.

Housing and urban development supervisor | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Community and Economic Development
  • Salary: $94,681 to $115,086 per year

The housing and urban development supervisor is responsible for planning, organizing, directing and supervising programs for the division.

Utilities services worker | Permanent, full-time

  • Department: Utilities
  • Salary: $25.94 to $38.41 per hour

The utilities services worker handles skilled tasks related to the construction, maintenance and repair of water and wastewater systems, while also performing various other maintenance duties as needed.
