After a summer of scorching temperatures, relief is on the horizon for the Modesto region, according to the National Weather Service.
Northern California residents can expect “another day of warm temperatures” on Monday followed by a cooldown that will last through the rest of the week, the weather agency said on X.
Here’s a look at Modesto’s upcoming weather forecast:
Is fall weather on the way to Modesto?
Bill Rasch, a meteorologist with the weather agency, said the seven-day weather forecast for Modesto is “definitely looking a little more fall-ish.”
“That isn’t to say we won’t experience another warm up again after this week,” he said in a phone interview with The Modesto Bee on Monday morning. “But we are looking at temperatures in the lower 80s this week.”
The official first day of fall — also known as the autumn equinox — is on Sunday, Sept. 22.
The season will last until winter makes its arrival on Saturday, Dec. 21.

“It’s a storm system that’s dropping in from the gulf of Alaska area, which is normal for this time of the year,” he said.
On Monday, the weather forecast shows sunny skies, with a high temperature near 100 degrees and a low temperature around 62.
Winds are predicted to begin Monday evening at around 6 to 7 mph.
On Tuesday, the forecast calls for a high near 86 and low around 60 degrees, with winds around 5 to 8 mph.

When can Modesto expect rain?
“We’re not expecting any precipitation in the Modesto area yet,” Rasch said.
While “it’s possible for Modesto to receive rain in September,” he said, it doesn’t happen often.
“Climatological speaking, there would be a better chance of rain in mid-October,” Rasch said.
