Driver dies in crash into tree along Briggsmore Avenue in Modesto. Police seek witnesses

A driver died Sunday morning in a crash into a tree along Briggsmore Avenue, the Modesto Police Department reported.

The driver was a Modesto resident, police said in a news release, but a name was not available Monday morning. The crash happened at about 11:30 a.m. at Rose Avenue and involved a 1994 Camaro Z28 that was eastbound, police said.

The driver was ejected and died at the scene, the Modesto Fire Department said in its daily incident summary. The eastbound side of Briggsmore was closed for a few hours while officers worked the scene.
