Firefighters responded Friday to a Turlock blaze that displaced six people and to two other fires at houses in Modesto.
The Turlock fire, on the 400 block of Crane Avenue, also killed two cats, according to the daily incident summary from the Modesto Fire Department. It serves both cities.
More details:
- A fire was reported at about 11:15 p.m. on the 1700 block of Judy Court in Modesto. Crews found flames on the exterior, which reached the attic before they were controlled, the summary said. It added that the American Red Cross was called in but did not say how many people needed help.
- A vacant house was reported on fire at about 12:10 a.m. on the 100 block of Laurel Street. “Crews arrived on-scene of a fully involved single-story unoccupied residence and operated in the defensive mode to quickly contain and extinguish the fire,” the summary said.
- The Turlock call came at about 6 a.m. “Upon arrival crews found heavy fire from the front of a residence with fire extending into the attic,” the summary said. “Crews operated in the defensive mode until the fire was suppressed to the point of making an offensive attack.” The Red Cross aided the residents.
The Stanislaus Regional Fire Investigation Unit will try to determine the causes at each house. Aside from the cats, no injuries were reported.
