The Modesto Bee

A Modesto woman who suffered burns to almost all of her body on July 4 died Saturday, the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Andrea Benning, 52, suffered burns to 80% of her body during a fire on the 1900 block of Robertson Road. She was taken to a local hospital by a ground ambulance and then airlifted to a burn center in Sacramento, where she died.

Details of the fire had not been revealed as of Monday afternoon. A Sheriff’s Office news release said, “The fire was isolated to the area around where the victim was located inside the residence.” Detectives were hoping to talk with Benning once she was able, but that never happened.

The Sheriff’s Office is trying to determine if the fire was accidental or intentional. Several people were contacted at the scene and interviewed regarding the fire, but no arrests had been made as of Monday.

Anyone with information regarding the fire or anyone who may have witnessed it is asked to contact Detective Jorge Perez by calling 209-567-4466. Tips may be left with Stanislaus County Area Crime Stoppers at stancrimetipc.org or by calling 1-866-60-CRIME.
