A woman is in stable, but critical condition after suffering severe burns during an incident in west Modesto — the cause of which is being investigated, according to the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

Deputies responded to the 1900 block of Robertson Road and found the woman had burns to 80% of her body. The fire was “near her, inside the house,” according to Detective Royjindar Singh. She was airlifted to a local hospital.

“Right now it is unknown if this was an accidental or intentional incident. Detectives need to interview (the woman) once she is able to,” wrote Singh in a text message.

Several people were interviewed at the scene of the fire, but none were arrested as of Friday afternoon.
