Modesto could see temps above 100 degrees soon. Here’s when to expect ‘major heat risk’
The summer heat is starting to creep into the Central Valley — and forecasts show Modesto could see above 100-degree temperatures next week.
According to the National Weather Service, there is a significant warming trend in the forecast, with potential for major heat risk.
“Latest forecast gives the Valley a medium to high likelihood of hitting triple digits,” the weather service said on X, formerly called Twitter.
Here’s what’s in store for Modesto and who might be vulnerable during these hot weather conditions:

What does heat risk mean?
The heat risk scale, or the weather service’s HeatRisk Prototype, provides a forecast that shows the likelihood of heat-related problems occurring.
From little or no risk (0) to extreme risk (4), the scale calculates how hot it is compared to normal, how long the heat lasts and if it’s likely to cause health issues based on data from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.
According to the weather service, moderate heat risk “affects most individuals sensitive to heat, especially those without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.”
Major heat risk “affects anyone without effective cooling and/or adequate hydration.”
Who’s at risk?
Vulnerable individuals include those who are pregnant, newborns, children, older adults and those with a chronic illness. These groups are more at risk due to age and conditions that make it difficult to regulate high temperatures.
