Homicide update: 1 killed, 1 hurt in Tuolumne County shooting. Suspect arrested

A suspect has been arrested on suspicion of homicide in a shooting that left one person dead in the small town of Long Barn on Wednesday night, according to the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office.

The man killed has been identified as 62-year-old Joseph Barbalinardo Jr. of Long Barn.

Deputies responded to a call reporting that a man was shot in the area of Long Barn Road near Circle Drive at about 10:10 p.m. On the way to the location, deputies received a report that more shots had been fired.

When they arrived, they ordered “multiple people” out of the residence, including one person who was arrested. When deputies entered the residence, they found two people with gunshot wounds.

One of them, Barbalinardo, was pronounced dead at the scene. The other gunshot wound victim was taken to a local hospital by air ambulance, the release said.

Detectives arrested 69-year-old James West of Long Barn. He was taken to the Dambacher Detention Center on Thursday morning, where he was booked on charges of first-degree murder and first-degree attempted murder.
