Teen girl killed when vehicle crashes into tree on Highway 132 outside La Grange, CHP says
One person was killed, and another was severely injured, when a vehicle crashed into a tree near Don Pedro Reservoir on Tuesday night, according to a California Highway Patrol release.
At about 7:15 p.m., a 2008 Subaru Outback traveling west on Highway 132 drove off the roadway just west of Zarzamora Street in Tuolumne County. The area is about 10 miles east of La Grange.
The Subaru veered off the highway and then crashed into a tree. The force of the impact killed the vehicle’s passenger, a 17-year-old girl. She was pronounced dead at the scene. The driver of the Subaru, a 20-year-old La Grange man, was taken by helicopter to University of California Davis Medical Center in Sacramento.
The girl was identified as Lydia Koelzow, a Sonora resident, said Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office spokeswoman Ashley Boujikian.
“The cause of this crash is under investigation, and it has not yet been determined whether alcohol and/or drugs were involved,” read the release.
Initial findings from CHP determined the driver was traveling at a “high rate of speed” at the time of the crash.
