A man was killed in a head-on collision in Hughson on Sunday evening, according to a release from the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office.

The two-vehicle collision happened on the 6200 block of East Hatch Road, near Santa Fe Avenue. Fire and medical personnel responded at about 5:24 p.m.

First responders found two pickup trucks: a white Chevrolet 2500 and a black Dodge Ram 1500, the latter driven by a man who was pronounced dead at the scene.

After speaking with witnesses, investigators believed the Dodge was traveling east on Hatch road, passing vehicles. It collided head-on with the Chevrolet, which was driven by a woman traveling west.

The woman was able to escape the truck with the help of her husband, who was in another vehicle. She was taken to a local hospital for treatment of minor injuries.

The man killed in the collision had not been identified as of Monday morning. It was also unknown if drugs or alcohol were a factor — which would be determined through his autopsy, scheduled for Monday afternoon.

Deputies ask anyone who witnessed the incident and has information for investigators to call Deputy Matthew Orr at 209-869-7162. They may also leave an anonymous tip by calling Stanislaus Area Crime Stoppers at 209-521-4636 or going to www.stancrimetips.org.
