One killed, one injured in rollover crash outside Modesto

One person was killed, and another injured, in a single-vehicle crash on Albers Road outside of Modesto on Wednesday night, according to California Highway Patrol.

The crash happened at about 7:35 p.m. when a Chevrolet Silverado traveling south veered off the road. The vehicle went onto the shoulder before crashing into a dirt embankment and overturning.

The driver, a 27-year-old Turlock man identified as Antonio Valencia-Rangel, was ejected and died at the scene. The passenger, a 34-year-old Turlock woman, escaped from the vehicle before first responders arrived. She was taken to Memorial Medical Center with broken ribs, according to the CHP.

The CHP determined that both Valencia-Rangel and his passenger were not wearing their seat belts. Whether alcohol or drugs were a factor had not been determined by Thursday morning.
