The best in Modesto’s music scene will be decided by the public. How to cast your vote
Voting is open for this year’s Modesto Area Music Association Awards.
The public can cast votes for the best in the region’s music scene through 11:59 p.m. Sunday, Oct. 15, at www.modestoareamusic.com.
An invitation-only awards ceremony will be held Oct. 17 at the State Theatre, according to a press release. But everyone can watch the show, as it will be broadcast live at 6:30 p.m. on www.modestoview.com and on Facebook at @modestoview.
The public can vote in 16 categories, ranging from best alt/indie/pop music to best comedian, best singer-songwriter unplugged, best event and best venue.
“There will be very special celebrations at the 2023 MAMA Awards,” Chris Murphy said in the release. Murphy co-founded the music association with Chris Ricci.
Darin Morris of VMI Rocks will receive this year’s lifetime achievement award. “Our music and cultural scene is good because we have music in the schools and great music teachers. Darin teaches kids to ROCK,” Murphy said in the release.
There will be a performance by 89-year-old steel guitar musician Bobby Black, who now lives in Manteca, the release said. The program also will celebrate the music of Marirose Powell, and local musicians will remember the late Kid Guitar.
