Modesto man killed when Tesla crashed into light pole is identified

The driver killed in a crash early Saturday at Pelandale Avenue and Carver Road has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as Jasjit Gill, 33, of Modesto.

Modesto police responded shortly after midnight to the solo vehicle crash involving a Tesla Model Y.

According to preliminary information released by police, Gill was eastbound on Pelandale when, for an unknown reason, the vehicle struck a light pole at the southwest corner of the intersection. He died at the scene.

A Fresno man, who was a passenger, suffered moderate injuries. No other vehicles were involved, police said.

The crash remains under investigation. Officers had no updates Tuesday on what may have caused it, Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said.
