Man identified in second drowning at Stanislaus-area reservoir this month
A man who drowned at Modesto Reservoir on Sunday has been identified by the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office as a 64-year-old Bay Area man.
Eudoro Garcia went swimming by himself about 4 p.m. and never returned.
The Sheriff Office’s Special Vehicles Operations Unit responded to the scene, where family members told deputies they last saw Garcia 40 yards from shore about 40 minutes before they called for help, according to a press release.
The initial first responders could not locate him and requested the Stanislaus County Sheriff’s Office Dive Team’s assistance. After searching for 30 minutes, Garcia’s body was located and recovered.
This is the second drowning this month in Stanislaus County reservoirs.
On July 9, Carlos Lopez, 53 of Costa Mesa, drowned after swimming about 50 yards from shore. The Dive Team recovered his body several hours later.
“In both drownings, the swimmers were not wearing life jackets,” The Sheriff’s Office said in the press release. “We want to remind everyone that life jackets are available at each reservoir. They are free to use and come in sizes for children and adults.”
“If you see someone begin to struggle swimming or go under the water without resurfacing, immediately 911.”
