Motorcyclist killed in Highway 99 crash with big rig identified
A motorcyclist who died in a Highway 99 crash Friday afternoon has been identified as a Modesto man.
Christopher Nichols, 40, was run over by a big rig on northbound Highway 99 north of the Carpenter Road exit.
According to the California Highway Patrol, Nichols was riding a Yamaha motorcycle in the left lane, approaching Dodge van.
Nichols struck the right rear of the Dodge, throwing him off the motorcycle. He landed in the path of a semi truck traveling north in the middle lane and was run over by its rear axle, according to the CHP. Nichols died at the scene.
The drivers of the Dodge and the Freightliner truck pulled over into the center median following the collision and waited for authorities to arrive. Neither of the other drivers were injured in the crash.
