A man has been missing for four days since being swept down the Stanislaus River at the McHenry Recreation Area last week.

The man was attempting to swim across the river around noon Thursday when his friends lost sight of him, said San Joaquin County sheriff’s Deputy Nicholas Goucher.

“The water was cold and fast moving and he was swept away,” the deputy said.

The man is in his 20s, Goucher said, but he did not know where the man is from and did not release his name.

The deputy said authorities searched the river by boat and used a drone overhead during the weekend. The Sacramento County Sheriff’s Office also assisted in the search, using an underwater drone. The man had not been located as of early Monday afternoon.
