Skiing on Memorial Day? Northern California’s Dodge Ridge will reopen for holiday weekend
Lingering snow will allow Dodge Ridge to reopen to skiers and snowboarders for part of Memorial Day weekend.
The season had ended May 7, after nearly six months of abundant snow. The management decided that enough remains to briefly reopen Chairlift 5.
It will operate from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. both Saturday and Sunday. Lift tickets will be $49 for people 13 and older and $25 for younger patrons. Passes for the 2022-23 season are still valid.
An online search found that only three resorts in Northern California are still open for snow sports. The others are Palisades Tahoe and Mammoth Mountain.
Dodge has had weekend reopenings in past springs, but never this late, said an email Friday from Marketing Director Hanna Craig.
Chairlift 5 has about 5 feet of snow at its base and 10 feet at the top, she added. Weekend visitors also can enjoy music, dining, bounce houses, yoga and other activities.
The Pinecrest-area resort has the closest skiing and snowboarding to Stanislaus County. It cannot make its own snow, so it tends to have shorter seasons than others.
Not this year. Dodge opened Nov. 11 and totaled 757 inches at its deepest location by early May.
Craig said this will be the final weekend because the staff has to prepare for summer activities. They will include chairlift rides for people who get back down on foot or mountain bicycle.
