A woman who died in a fiery crash in downtown Modesto last week has been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as a 19-year-old Modesto resident.
Monserrath “Luna” Villasenor was driving a Toyota sedan south on Highway 99 at about 1:15 a.m. Friday when she took the exit to L street.
For unknown reasons, she lost control of the vehicle, leaving the east side of the road and striking a tree, according to the California Highway Patrol.
The Toyota came to rest on the passenger side before catching fire.
Passenger Kevin Nakhiengchan, 30, of Modesto, was able to get out of the vehicle but Villasenor remained trapped inside and died of her injuries at the scene, according to the CHP.
