Pedestrian fatally struck by car on Mitchell Road identified as Ceres man
The pedestrian fatally struck while trying to cross Mitchell Road early Sunday morning has been identified as a Ceres resident.
The Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office identified the man as 56-year-old John Younan, who public records show lived about a block away from the accident scene on Mitchell, just north of Colleen Way.
Younan, outside of a crosswalk, was walking east and was halfway across Mitchell when he was hit by a northbound Acura driven by a 17-year-old Modesto boy, said Ceres Officer Freddie Ortiz.
Younan was pronounced dead at the scene.
The 17-year-old driver stopped at the scene and cooperated with investigators. Ortiz said the driver is not suspected of being under the influence of drugs or alcohol.
Anyone with information about the crash is asked to call Ortiz at 209-538-5678.
