Caltrans completes Highway 99 widening through Manteca
Highway 99 has expanded from four to six lanes in this area, a $158 million project celebrated with a ribbon-cutting Wednesday.
The California Department of Transportation widened the highway from just south of Highway 120 to just north of Arch Road over three years. It also rebuilt the Main Street/Lathrop Road interchange as well as the one at French Camp/Turner Station. Soundwalls, concrete median barriers and ramp metering were part of the work, too.
“This project will enhance safety for both commute and recreational traffic in San Joaquin County,” public information officer Nicole Gorham said in an email to The Modesto Bee.
The funding included $36 million from the county’s half-percent sales tax for transportation, $89.5 million from a state bond measure for the same purpose, and $32.7 million from another state road fund.
City, county and state officials took part in the ribbon-cutting near the Main Street/Lathrop Road exit.
