Update: Davis High School student arrested for allegedly brandishing weapon on campus
A Davis High School student has been booked into juvenile hall on suspicion of brandishing a weapon on campus Thursday.
Modesto Police Department spokeswoman Sharon Bear said in a text late Thursday afternoon that, based on witness statements, investigators believe the student brandished an “unknown type of firearm (possibly a BB gun).“ She said no firearm has been located.
The school on Rumble Road in Modesto was placed on lockdown around at 1:40 p.m. and lifted about 30 minutes later.
Modesto City Schools spokeswoman Linda Mumma Solorio said in an email, “Davis High School received a report from a student stating they saw another student with what looked like a weapon in their waistband.” Administrators began investigating and working with law enforcement, she said. “Once the identity of the student was determined, the student was no longer on campus and the lockdown was lifted.”
She said, “The student’s parent brought the student back to campus at which time police took the student into custody.”
The student is male but Bear did not know his age or grade.
