Man and woman killed in head-on crash on Highway 4 identified
Two people who died in a head-on collision on Highway 4 in north Stanislaus County have been identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office.
The collision occurred at about 6:40 a.m. Monday on Highway 4 just west of Dunton Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.
Gurjot Kaur, 21 of Stockton, was driving a Honda sedan east and approaching a left bend in the roadway when she tried to pass a slower-moving vehicle ahead of her, the CHP said.
She crossed double solid yellow lines, which is illegal, and the bend limited her visibility, according to CHP Officer Tom Olsen.
Her vehicle crashed head-on with a Toyota pickup driven by 51-year-old Rudy Mercado of Copperopolis.
Both Kaur and Mercado died at the scene.
The vehicle Kaur was passing was not involved in the collision.
