Former Modesto man missing in Twain Harte. Not dressed for freezing nights, family says
Arturo Madrid Jr., a former Modesto resident, has been missing in Twain Harte since Sunday night. Family members are concerned about his lack of clothing and the freezing overnight temperatures.
Madrid, 46, was last seen around 6 p.m., the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office reported on Facebook. He was on foot near Laramie Lane in Twain Harte.
He was wearing jeans, a black hooded sweatshirt and a black Harley-Davidson hat. Madrid is described as about 5-foot-4, 190 pounds, bald and with a black beard, the Sheriff’s Office says.
The National Weather Service released a multi-hazard, winter storm warning for the Twain Harte area. According to the weather service, the low Tuesday night will be 27 degrees. Wednesday night, there’s a winter storm warning because of a 90% chance of rain and snow and a low temperature of 32 degrees.
Madrid was a former Modesto resident, his niece, Melissa Been, wrote to The Bee on Tuesday.
“He had been drinking. Freezing temperatures (are) making it dangerous to be outdoors without proper clothing and gear,” she wrote. “The sheriff has sent sniffer dogs without luck.”
A Facebook page called “Find Art Madrid” has more updated information on the search. It announced Art left the residence on Laramie Lane without his keys, wallet or cell phone.
Madrid’s son, Arturo III, owns the Facebook page. He said in a message that his father originally was headed to a bar, but returned to his friend’s house and then “disappeared out of nowhere.”
When Madrid left the friend’s house, his son said, he appeared upset, but not enough to cause concern.
Anyone with information on Madrid’s whereabouts is urged to call the Tuolumne County Sheriff’s Office at 209-533-5815.
