Football and turkey? Think again. Here’s how locals are giving back this Thanksgiving.
For teenagers Zach and Faith Knobel, Thanksgiving is about much more than food and football. The siblings began a food drive in 2013 and are going strong 10 years later.
Last year, with the help of a thousand volunteers and local schools, they collected 25,000 pounds of food to give away. It’s about teaching others to “have a servant’s heart and to be community minded,” said their mother, Esther. Their food drive this year has ended, but the family reiterated that anyone can still make a financial donation to Modesto Gospel Mission and their meals program.
The Knobel family isn’t alone. As rising food prices have made it even harder for some families to put food on the table, people all across Stanislaus County are taking the holiday as a chance to give back. Below are just a few places where families can go to find a free Thanksgiving meal next week. Volunteer opportunities and food drives are included in the list as well.
