Modesto man dies in two-vehicle crash on Claribel Road

A Modesto man died in a collision Wednesday night when the driver of another vehicle ran a red light on Claribel Road, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred at 9:45 p.m. when 52-year-old Paul Ryun of Oakdale, driving a Toyota SUV west on Claribel, stopped at a red light in the left turn lane to southbound Coffee Road, according to the California Highway Patrol.

For unknown reasons, Ryun then allegedly proceeded against the red light, driving into the intersection, where his Toyota collided with a Mercury.

The driver of the Mercury, identified by the Stanislaus County Coroner’s Office as 53-year old Nolen Praytor of Modesto, died at the scene.

Ryun was taken to Doctors Medical Center with major injuries.

Drugs and/or alcohol are not suspected to be factors in the collision, which remains under investigation.
