Pedestrian fatally struck by pickup truck in Ceres, California Highway Patrol reports

A pedestrian was struck and killed by a pickup truck on Service Road in Ceres on Friday night, the California Highway Patrol reported.

The collision occurred just after 7 p.m. on Service west of Esmar Road. Ripon resident Ricky Nail Jr. was driving west in a 2001 Chevrolet pickup went he saw the pedestrian — a 23-year-old Oakland man — in the roadway. He was unable to avoid striking the man, the CHP said in a news release.

Nail immediately pulled to the road’s shoulder and called 911. Emergency responders took the man by ambulance to Doctors Medical Center, where he was pronounced dead..

Nail was not injured.

The name of the pedestrian has been withheld pending notification of family.

Later Friday night, a motorcycle fatally struck a pedestrian on Scenic Drive in Modesto, the Modesto Fire Department reported.

The incident happened about 10 p.m. at Bodem Avenue, according to the department’s daily incident report.

The names of the people involved were not available from the Police Department on Sunday. Nor were details on how the crash happened or the injuries to the motorcyclist, who went by ambulance to a local hospital.
