Foster Farms announced a recall Saturday of frozen chicken patties found to have hard plastic pieces in the breading.

The Livingston-based company said the product came from its plant in Farmerville, Louisiana, and went to Costco distribution centers in California and four other states.

No injuries have been reported, the U.S. Food Safety and Inspection Service said in a news release. It advised consumers to return the chicken to Costco or throw it away.

The recall involves about 148,000 pounds of cooked product sold in 20-packs of 80 ounces each. They have a “best by” date of Aug. 11, 2023. The label also lists establishment number P-33901 and lot code 3*2223** in Inkjet print on the back edge of the packaging, as well as 7527899724 under the barcode.

Foster Farms got a complaint about the plastic from a consumer and recalled the chicken voluntarily, said Ira Brill, vice president of communications, by phone Saturday. He also emailed a statement:

“Food safety is of the highest concern to Foster Farms — a concern we know is shared by our customers and the families we serve. Foster Farms maintains rigorous food safety protocols and has taken immediate steps to remove the identified product from commerce.”

The recall involves Costcos in Washington, Arizona, Colorado and Utah, along with California.

FSIS said it “believes the hard plastic pieces could be sharp and possibly cause an injury. Anyone concerned about an injury or illness should contact a health care provider.”
