Driver killed in crash on Highway 132 near Vernalis identified. Second driver badly hurt

A woman who died in a crash last week on Highway 132 was identified Monday by the California Highway Patrol.

The crash occurred Thursday nigh, east of Vernalis, when 63-year-old Kathryn Pearce ran a stop sign on northbound McCracken Road at Highway 132, according to the CHP.

The front of the Toyota Prius that Pearce was driving hit the side of a Nissan Frontier that was traveling west on 132 and did not have a stop sign.

Pearce, who was from Southern California, died at the scene. She was not wearing a seat belt, according to the CHP.

The driver of the Nissan, 23-year-old Dilpreet Thiara of Manteca, suffered major injuries. She was taken by helicopter to Memorial Medical Center in Modesto.
