Pedestrian fatally struck by big rig on Highway 99 identified as Ceres resident
The pedestrian struck and killed by a tractor-trailer rig on Highway 99 in Ceres on Saturday afternoon has been identified as Shaun Neuman, 27, of Ceres.
The crash occurred about 4:13 p.m., according to a California Highway Patrol news release.
The preliminary investigation found that Stockton resident William Hutton, 73, was driving a 2018 Freightliner big rig north on Highway 99 approaching Hatch Road.
Neuman was standing on the right shoulder when he “suddenly ran directly west into the #3 lane,” into the path of the truck, according to the CHP release.
Hutton had no time to avoid the collision, and the right front of the Freightliner struck Neuman, who was pronounced dead at the scene.
Hutton and his passenger reported no injuries.
Initial information from the CHP on the pedestrian was that he was a Vallejo resident. That later was corrected.
